In the present moment I'm simultaneously taking two on-line courses
at UMF, that allows me to make some definite inferences:
1. Distance Education with Internet usage, that is realized in UMF
at rather high technological level, permit the users (students) take
courses, communicate with other users (students), pass examinations,
and so on… and do all that without loss of educational quality though
they are located far away from the instructor.
2. As a rather new educational form on-line method has some technical
problems, bound with not yet thoroughly worked out techniques. As
the students of Togliatti Academy of Management correctly pointed
out to one of the American teachers visiting the Academy, some pages
of on-line course are not made very conveniently; there are no technologies
that allow the students to get immediate feedback from the instructor
on their answers, and so on…
3. During the courses realization it became obvious that students'answers
to the assigned problems are commented and discussed fully by their
classmates, whereas in the traditional form of teaching, as a rule,
it does not take place.
In conclusion I'd like to add that content
of UMF courses is rather practical and useful. During course's discussions
we had a chance to compare USA and Russian methods of management.
Many of us had some experience in marketing and operational management
already and continue to work in this field now, so, to my mind,
we'll be able to apply some new methods in our present work.
