PIME - II
UMF and TAM mutually decided to run a pilot online program in fall 2001, offering two team-taught UMF courses. Jointly taught by a lead UMF faculty member and a TAM faculty colleague, each course enrolled forty students - twenty from UMF and twenty from TAM. Both courses were very successful. Student and faculty enthusiasm, at UMF and TAM, encouraged project leaders to extend the online program into the winter 2002 semester with three jointly taught online courses, each enrolling twenty UMF and twenty TAM students.

This 2001-2002 pilot online project encompasses three distinct courses Marketing Operations Management, and Principles of Finance. The pilot involves four UMF and three TAM faculty, two UMF and three TAM staff, and approximately 200 UMF and 100 TAM students.

A related activity illustrates the depth and breadth of partnership activities. Besides three online courses delivery in spring 2002 UMF will offer a new course and international study trip, Russia: An Economy in Transition. The sponsoring UMF faculty, Drs. Perry and Mehdian conceived and developed this course in consultation with TAM faculty colleagues. After a series of introductory lectures about the major issues that the Russian society face during its transition from a command economy to that of a market economy, UMF students will travel to Russia, more specifically to Samara, Togliatti, and Moscow. While in Togliatti, Russia, TAM faculty will review and offer practical examples, relating to the impact that this economic transition has in contemporary Russian society. Concurrent with classroom discussion, there will be field trips to various Russian financial institutions, government entities, small and large businesses, including AvtoVAZ, and the Moscow stock market. These excursions will give students the opportunity to observe the Russian management style in the new economic environment. TAM will play an instrumental role in this course, from design through delivery, serving as a host site and provide faculty, staff, and student support during the international segment of the course.
